Westside Food Bank Stars on TV

March, 2005 (GLENDALE, AZ) – Long-time chamber members, Credit Union West and the Westside Food Bank are teaming up to educate the public about the need to provide nutritious meals to more than 79,000 needy residents in the West Valley. The credit union has embarked on an ambitious production schedule of television spots featuring the food bank, its wonderful volunteers, and the commitment of Credit Union West to the West Valley.

The spots will air this spring, and will raise awareness of the reality of hunger in Arizona. Kids Cafe, which feeds thousands of school children every day, will be the subject of one of the TV commercials.

David Seigler, Director of Development for the Westside Food Bank, recently reported that 13.9% of all Arizonans now live in poverty, including 58,000 children living in Maricopa County. That’s why Credit Union West has stepped up to assist the food bank in educating the public about hunger in our community.

“We are committed to the Westside Food Bank and its many wonderful programs in the West Valley,” said Steve Becker, President and CEO of Credit Union West. “Credit union employees and members alike are volunteers with the food bank, and share its dedication to our less fortunate neighbors in the West Valley.”

“Credit Union West’s commitment to the food bank is absolutely wonderful. While the dollars are certainly important, their marketing assistance is a tremendous boost as well,” said Seigler. “This program is a perfect illustration of how businesses can help the community. We’re hoping for a very positive domino effect, with many other businesses following the fine example set by Credit Union West.”

The credit union’s donation program for 2005 is extraordinary: The not-for-profit financial organization has pledged a $5 donation for each new account opened; plus a $5 donation for each new loan transacted through Credit Union West, which will result in an annual donation of many thousands of dollars.

Look for the upcoming TV spots in April; featuring some of the 7,500 hardworking volunteers of the Westside Food Bank, where hope’s door is always open.
