HISTORY
Our humble beginning
* Luke Federal Credit Union began in an old airplane hanger on November 21, 1951 with only 5 members and a mere $25 is assets. Its mission, to serve the financial needs of civilian workers at Luke Air Force Base, was a driving force behind the financial institution.
* Within five years our charter was expanded to include Luke Air Force Base civilians, military personnel, and their families.
* By 1959 Luke Federal Credit Union had grown to nearly $1 million in assets.
* By 1969 Luke Federal Credit Union had over 7,000 members, as well as $5 million in assets.
How the West was won
* In the 1970’s we introduced checking services, becoming the first full-service financial co-operative. We also opened a branch located at Luke Air Force Base, and grew to over $28 million in assets and 20,000 members.
* In the 1980’s we introduced ATMs, VISA debit & credit cards, lines of credit, home loans, IRAs, certificates and phone banking.
* By 1982, we started a Select Employer Group program, which allowed employees of participating companies to join Luke Federal Credit Union. As a result, growth of the credit union swelled to $30 million in assets with nearly 30,000 members.
* In the 1990’s we added VISA Gold credit card services, a custom website, a branch in Arrowhead, and earned our first five star Bauer Financial Reports rating for outstanding financial stability. Assets topped $100 million and our charter was reformed to permit all those who lived, worked or worshipped in Western Maricopa County to join the credit union. Upon this amendment we became Credit Union West, both in name and in spirit.
* In 2001 we opened our Avondale Branch, launched online banking services and bill pay options, and joined an international credit union network of shared branches. This partnership allowed our members to easily access their Credit Union West accounts anytime, anywhere.
* In 2005 we opened our Cactus Branch, winning prestigious awards for innovative design and interior layout. On the heels of this accomplishment, our branch in Surprise opened in the spring of 2006.
* In 2006 we partnered with Identity Theft 911 ™ to offer a free resource for all members and their families to help combat the identity theft crises. This free service provides highly experienced identity theft resolution experts who work one-on-one with members every step of the way until their identities and their good names are restored.
Today we have the privilege of offering membership to anyone who lives, works or worships in Maricopa County. We have approximately $300 million in assets, over 33,000 members, and much to be grateful for!
